Cockburn House is more than 100 years old, built by the Davies family in Jamestown SA in 1912. The house was passed to their daughter who lived there until her death in 1977. Doctor Shepherd, a well-known surgeon in SA, consulted and lived in Cockburn House from 1978 for 30 years. Warren and Jane Luckraft bought the house in 2010 and have opened it up for guests to experience the romance and excitement of staying in one of the region’s truly iconic dwellings.
Set in an acre of garden, Cockburn House boasts a large presence, with beautiful turned verandahs and ornate lattice work. The area is a perfect space for large functions, afternoon musical entertainment and a relaxing meal under the vines or in the well appointed rotunda.
Jamestown is a perfect place to take that holiday weekend. Centred in the Southern Flinders Ranges only a couple of hours north of Adelaide, the township is a great place to base yourself whilst visiting surrounding attractions like the historical Steam Town in Peterborough, the Gladstone Gaol, and the Courthouse Heritage Centre at Melrose.
This elegant house has an open, airy feel, with stained glass windows in the dining room and formal lounge, and french doors opening onto the wide verandahs. There are 4 bedrooms, sleeping up to 8 adults, with 2 bathrooms, including an en-suite with bidet. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances.
The rooms comprise four poster, brass and contemporary bedding set out neatly with the same elegance as the house itself.
